My primary research focus is on developing systems biology and bioinformatics tools to aid in both cellular engineering and the understanding of basic cellular processes.
Modeling of Protein Secretion
I am working on discovering and relieving the bottlenecks for production of recombinant protein with a focus on the secretory pathway. Combining -omics data, experimental genetic, statistical models and metabolic models allows us to gain insight into the mechanisms behind protein production as well as fundamental cellular processes such as secretion.
Refining gene annotation of the Chinese Hamster genome
While the Chinese Hamster genome has been assembled and annotated, the annotation of non-coding regions remains sparse. In collaboration with members of the Christopher Glass lab, we are using different technologies to define important non-coding elements in the genome. This will aid in more precise genetic engineering in CHO cells.
